Default GW info

so i have not yet played GW and am not sure i want to yet, but could someone give me the info from an MMORPG player's perspective. i used to play CoH/CoV and now play world of warcraft. so i understand the "professions"(or classes) but do u get skills every few lvs like other games. are there any traveling powers at all? how do the guilds actually work, are they player made or game made? does the creation of a character include just primary and secondary profession and look? and last are certain classes able to wear certain armor?

and anything else about the game in relation to other MMORPGs

thanx.

Too much for me, I'm feeling lazy. Try Guildwiki, it is a great source of GW info.

In the original Guild Wars (Prophecies), many of the skills you can get through quests in the early parts of the game. They are not level dependant. The Elite skills can be obtained in the high-end content of the game. But they are not level dependant, either. In Factions, there aren't as many normal skills gotten through quests, you have to buy them. The only limitation on how many you can buy is how many skill points & how much gold you have. the highest level you can go is 20, and it doesn't take a lot of grind to get there, especially in Factions. The reason for this is A-Net wants to keep the game about how well you use your skills, not how high of a level you are.

In GW, you can travel instantly from one to to another using the map, as long as you've already uncovered it by running/fighting your way to it. There are also running skills available to most professions.

Guilds are player made. Joining a guild is easy. They're plenty of people recruiting throughout the game.

When creating your character, you select your primary profession, hair, face, height, armor, armor color, and name. Only the armor can be changed later by buying better stuff.

All armors are primary profession specific. And they each have very distinctive characteristics, appearance wise. And each profession has more than one armor set to choose from, plus you can mix and match your armor pieces using the different sets. For example, my Warrior has all 15K Gladiator's armor except for her 1.5K Gladiator's Halburk(sp). I also have Knight's boots for wearing when I'm playing a stance tank. Check out Guildwiki for details about different armors

When out adventuring in PvE instanced areas, you're in your own little world. You won't come across other players - except for 1 or 2 missions in factions where you work with another party to beat the mission.

there are no battlegrounds, the PvP is organized and almost all team-based.

There are what could be qualified as dungeons (Underworld, Fissure of Woe, The Deep, Urgoz Warren), that have different requirments for entry. Some enterprising players have discovered means to enter and survive these areas with a group that is smaller than what is suggested (8 people for the 1st two, 12 for the second two), but generally speaking, the areas are incredibly difficult, with repeatable quests and items that drop nowhere else.
